I was browsing through a recent Internet Scout Report and learned about this great web site: Soundjunction.org

SoundJunction is produced by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and was commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, of the UK Government.

Here’s how they describe the site:

Soundjunction.org“The SoundJunction website’s all about music. You can take music apart and find out how it works, create music yourself, find out how other people make music and how they perform it, you can find out about musical instruments, and look at the backgrounds to different musical styles.”

Being a serious music junkie, this site appeals to me on so many levels. It provides an interactive environment to learn about music instruments, harmony, rhythm, and composition. Professional musicians talk about creativity and making it in the music business. The best part is that you get to make your own music! You can take bits and pieces from various recorded tracks and meld them together into your own creation. If you want to save your tracks, you have to register with the site, but anyone can create tracks and access all articles and activities as a guest user.

You should have the most recent versions of Shockwave and Quicktime installed to see the site at its best, and if you do register, it asks for personal information (name, place, etc.), so be aware when using it with children. Otherwise, this is a great site for anyone interested in learning more about music of all kinds.
