In the latest Computers in Libraries, January 2007, Karen Coombs confirms that using Web 2.0 services can make your web site more user centered using 6 pillars of Web 2.0. The State Library’s website uses many of these pillars. Take a look at her article on using the 6 pillars of web 2.0 as a foundation for your website:

1. Radical decentralization
2. Small pieces loosely joined
3. Perpetual beta
4. Remixable content
5. User as contributor
6. Rich user experience

What I like about using Web 2.0 in your library’s website is that it adapts as user (customer) needs change. It has certainly made a difference in our web site for updating the library events calendar as well as the different departments. Suddenly the web page is no longer a static marketing tool, it grows and changes with the times.
