One of the results of the TechExpress Institute is that South Carolina Public Libraries are beginning to use blogs as a form of communication.

Todd Stephens of Spartanburg Public Libraries has added a blog: http://spartanburglibraries.blogspot.com/

Dwight MacInvaill’s staff has created their website with blogging sections at: http://www.gclibrary.org/

Please let us know if your library in SC is setting up a blog and we will start a list.

Matt Gullett, blogging at Youth Tech, makes a great argument for providing MySpace classes for parents.  He also includes a link to the brochure he uses for the classes.  Don’t you love folks who share??  Check it out:  http://youthtech.wordpress.com/2006/10/15/myspace-for-parents-pt-2/

You don’t have to go to the Internet Librarian Conference in California to get great information about emerging technology. A number of bloggers are writing posts with notes from the conference speakers.

Check out Librarian in Black, The Shifted Librarian, Library TechBytes to see information about:

  • MySpace & Facebook with Aaron Schmidt and Cliff Landis
  • The RSS & Javascript Cookbook: Creating One Stop with
    Paul Pival and Meredith Farkas
  • Podcasting & Vidcasting (a two-part session) with
Greg Schwartz, Jeff Humphrey, David Free, Sean Cordes, and David King
  • Flickr & Libraries with Michael Porter and Lluisa Nunez
  • AND MUCH MORE!

These three blogs are great ones to add to your Bloglines account!

From ALA:

The Public Programs Office (PPO) of the American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce the creation of a new online resource for librarians interested in conducting reading and discussion programs. The archive for Let’s Talk About It reading and discussion programs, online at http://publicprograms.ala.org/ltai/, provides a wealth of information related to previous Let’s Talk About It national programs for libraries.

The archive includes summaries and book lists for each theme, scholar essays, and best of all, a “how to” guide for presenting a Let’s Talk About It series. This guide includes promotional ideas and sample press releases. Even better….it’s free!
